LAST CALL - three stories of life and love under the influence...
"Last Call" is a feature film set in the world of New York City bar life
that mixes three separate stories into one continuous night of drinking to
examine life and love "under the influence." Set in a downtown jazz club, a
dingy open-mic bar, and a magnificent relic of an airport
cocktail lounge, "Last Call" examines the ways people use alcohol and the
effects of drinking on judgement, perception, and action.
An extended flight delay prolongs a farewell between two reticent lovers,
BILL and MOLLY, whose first weekend stab at romance, has failed miserably.
After spending several hours at the airport cocktail lounge, the two begin
to see each other in a new light, and they like what they see. But doesn't
everything look good through the bottom of a whisky glass? Bill suffers from
more than blurred vision, and Molly has a secret that's sure to sober him
up.
JACK'S girlfriend KAT is throwing him a Thirtieth birthday party at Pop's, a
cavern of live jazz, booze and drunken dreams gone wrong. Kat's friend JULIE
is there and the birthday boy can't seem to keep his eyes off of her. As the
night goes on and the drinks go down, Jack's attention shifts from
girlfriend Kat to best friend Julie - the inevitability of his growing older
matched only by his inability to grow up.
TARA is in love with JIMMY and plans to announce their engagement to both
sets of parents at the open-mic bar where Jimmy does stand-up comedy.
Between Tara's alcoholic mother, Jimmy's overbearing father, and the
building tension among the two families, the young couple must overcome
deep-seated familial odds to persevere in the name of love.
"Last Call" is a collaboration between Whiskey Outpost partners, Josh Apter
and Peter Olsen, and award-winning screenwriter/director Kelly Atkins, who
recently participated in the prestigious Independent Film Project (IFP)
screenwriter's lab in Los Angeles.
